Camp Randall Stadium is home to Wisconsin Badgers football. This well known venue has just recently been given the honor of being one of the top ten "home field advantage" venues in the United States. It's hard to top a Badger game when you are there with 82,000 football fans.
The history of Camp Randall Stadium includes a time when it was a natural grass field. That's not uncommon to see, but Wisconsin was one of the first football teams to switch to artificial turf. Like it or not, the turf was easy to maintain, and could handle the abuse of the Wisconsin winters.
Like many college football venues, Camp Randall Stadium grew over the years. It started as a horseshoe shaped building. With time, the south end zone, upper deck, and corner sections were added. The "horseshoe" was closed for good. A major renovation in 2002 included the addition of luxury boxes, new restrooms, and scoreboards.
Aside from plays on the field, Camp Randall Stadium plays host to Wisconsin high school football championships, marching band competitions, and more. Watching the band in the "fifth quarter" is one event you cannot miss. Win or lose, the band hits the field the mood of the crowd is elevated.
Camp Randall houses the athletic department offices, training and weight rooms, along with a trophy room that is most impressive. Just to the south of the bowl is the field house. The south end zone sections of the stadium are located on the north side of the field house. They used to stand alone, but with the 2005 renovation, the entire bowl now encloses the field. Previous to that renovation, there were poor sight lines in lower rows. Those seats were removed. The address is 1440 Monroe Street, in the heart of Madison.
