The notorious Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball team represents the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. The Fighting Irish compete in the Big East Conference of the NCAA Division I. The team has competed in the NCAA Tournament 29 times and their combined record is 30-33. The Fighting Irish had an extraordinary 45-game home winning streak between February 2006 and February 2009 which is the second longest in school history. The 2007-2008 season was 18-0 at home, leading Notre Dame to be the first team in Big East history to have two consecutive undefeated seasons at home. The Irish are known for their Final Four appearance in the 1978 NCAA Tournament under the legendary coach Digger Phelps. Another notable feat is when the Fighting Irish ended the 88-game winning streak of UCLA in 1974, a streak that had commenced after Notre Dame had ended UCLA's 45-game winning streak in 1971.  Notre Dame basketball tickets are always in high demand.

Their home court is the Purcell Pavilion which is located in the Edmund P. Joyce Center on the Notre Dame campus with a capacity of 9,800. The facility was originally built in 1968 and underwent renovation in 2006 and the first phase was completed in 2009. Future phases of the renovation will include a new video scoreboard over center court. The basketball program shares the facility with the volleyball and hockey programs.

The team has been under the coaching expertise of Mike Brey since 2000. Brey played varsity basketball for Northwestern for three seasons during college before graduating from George Washington University with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1982. He returned to his high school, DeMatha Catholic High School, to aid in coaching the team under Coach Morgan Wootten before being hired by Duke University in 1987 to assist Mike Krzyzewski. After this stint he took over his first head coaching job in 1995 at the University of Delaware where he led the Fighting Blue Hens to a 99-51 record over his five year tenure. This took them to two America East Conference Championships and ultimately two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Brey went onward to take over head coaching position for the Fighting Irish in 2000 when he succeeded Matt Doherty. Previous to Brey joining the program, Notre Dame had not been to the NCAA Tournament since 1990 but Brey led the Fighting Irish to the NCAA Tournament the first three years of his coaching. They even notched a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2003. The Fighting Irish again appeared in the tournament in 2007 and 2008. The 2007-2008 season was a great time for Bray as he led the Fighting Irish to a 24-6 regular season mark and was named Big East Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.Click below to get your Fighting Irish tickets.
