Keno Davis spent most of the 1990s and all of the 2000s coaching college basketball. His first coaching position was as an undergrad assistant at Iowa from 1991 through 1995 when he moved on to coach at Southern Indiana through 1997 and then finally on to Southeast Missouri State through 2003. Between 2003 and 2007, Davis continued as an assistant coach, this time at Drake University and under the expertise of his father, Dr. Tom Davis. Davis moved up to head coaching position for one year at Drake before moving on to the Friars in 2008. Davis was named the 2008 Associated Press Basketball Coach of the Year. After his first season with the team, the Friars had an 18-12 regular season record, 10-8 Big East record and a 1-1 in the Big East Championship. In 2009, Davis showed fellow coaches what he is made of when he led Providence to one of the biggest wins of his coaching career when the Friars beat #1 ranked Pittsburgh on February 24, 2009. This win against Pittsburgh and another big win against the Syracuse Orangemen have created a good reputation for the Keno Davis era at Providence thus far and helped to achieve an NIT berth.
In the 1960s, particularly 1961 and 1963, Providence took victory at the NIT championship. The Friars have also competed in the NCAA Final Four twice, in both 1973 and 1987 and in 1997 the team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. Throughout team history, the Friars have 15 NCAA Tournament berths and 16 NIT berths. Check the link below for Providence basketball tickets.
