Marquette Falls to Notre Dame in Another Overtime Game

By Marquette Tickets fan Phil (03/09/2010 03:20 PM)

Marquette Big East tournament tickets

Marquette lost an overtime game to their rivals Notre Dame this past Saturday.  The game went to overtime once again.  This was the fourth overtime in the past five games.  They managed to win the past three overtime games, but this time Notre Dame came out ahead.  Final score 63-60.  As for Marquette, they are off to the Big East tournament in New York.  Their first opponent is St. Johns.  Tip off is March 10th, at 1pm.

Marquette has won nine of the past eleven games, with three being road games.  Senior day might have been spoiled by Notre Dame, but the Big East tournament could lead the team to the big dance.  Big East tournament tickets are available now.

Marquette Basketball at Bradley Center and On The Road

By Golden Eagles Basketball fan Phil (03/03/2010 03:24 PM)

When Marquette faced Seton Hall on February 28th, the Golden Eagles had an eight point lead at the half.  Jeff Robinson of Seton Hall had led his team with over two dozen points, but they failed to win.  Marquette took advantage of a 6-1 run at the 13 minute mark in the second half.

A few minutes later, Seton Hall tied the game at 56.  The Seton Hall crowd was noisy, but only for another minute.  The Golden Eagles scored six quick points, and shut that crowd down.  At the buzzer, the score was tied at 63.  Overtime play featured Marquette offense alone.  They scored the first five points, and then went up by seven after a pair of foul shots scored by Jimmy Butler.  Marquette almost gave up the game at the end, but kept the lead long enough to win 84-83.

The Bradley Center game vs Louisville was a different story.  Marquette trounced Louisville 69-48.  At one point, Marquette scored 18 unanswered points, with Darius Johnson-Odom scoring 22 in the game.  Al McGuire night was a great time for all.  Next up for Marquette is Notre Dame.  Game time is 1pm.  Marquette tickets are still available.

Marquette VS Providence | Golden Eagles Down the Friars

Marquette tickets Bradley Center

Our Marquette Golden Eagles defeated the Providence Friars on the road, and stand at 4-7 in the Big East standings.  Marquette fans watched both teams score six points before Providence pulled ahead.  The Friars kept the lead for the first half of the game.  At the break it was 40-36.

After the break, Providence added to their lead, scoring seven points to Marquette's three.  From there, Marquette took command.  The Golden Eagles took the lead 57-56, and kept pushing back whenever the Friars scored.  Providence would come close to regaining the lead two more times in the game, but came up short both times.  Lazar Hayward shot two key free throws with under one minute to play, putting the Golden Eagles up by three.  The Friars went cold, and Marquette came up winners.

Next up for our Marquette Golden Eagles is a home game vs. USF on February 13th.  Game time is set for 7:30.  Bradley Center tickets available now.

Marquette Basketball Schedule 2010

By Marquette ticket buddy Phil (02/03/2010 03:29 PM)

At this point in the season Marquette has only nine games left to play on their 2010 schedule.  Marquette won their first six games, defeating non conference and lower ranked teams in November.  December was not so good for Marquette.  They lost to NC State, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.  This carried over into January with a loss to Villanova.  Since the Villanova game Marquette has a 4-3 record, and 4-5 conference record overall.

Tonight Marquette faced Depaul at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.  Tip off is 7pm.  They face Providence on Feb. 6, and come back to the Bradley Center on 2/13 to play South Florida.

Maurice Acker, Marquette VS Syracuse, Marquette Tickets

By Marquette tickets fan Paul (01/27/2010 02:02 PM)

After two losses in a row, Marquette defeated Syracuse on the road.  The Golden Eagles fought to a tie at the half, but pulled away with just enough strength to win by five.  Lazar Haward had 16 points, and eight rebounds.  Johnson-Odom was the team leader in points with 17.

In other news, Maurice Acker is one semester ahead in his studies.  Since he's on track to graduate early, the Marquette Golden Eagles will see Acker off as he skips his last year of eligibility.  Everyone wishes Maruice the best when he heads out into the working world.

Jeronne Maymon Now A Tennessee Vol

By Marquette Basketball fan Phil (01/20/2010 09:00 AM)

It was announced this week that Jeronne Maymon will play for the Tennessee Vols.  He will sit out for one year per NCAA rules.  This Madison Wisconsin native hopes to make his mark after meeting with Vol's coach Pearl.  He plans to beef up the Tennesse team with his phisical style of play and his 240lb frame.  Marquette Basketball tickets are available for the upcoming game vs Rutgers at the Bradley Center on January 26th.  Tonight, it's Marquette Vs Depaul on the road.

Marquette Defeats Providence at Bradley Center

By Golden Eagles fan Paul (01/18/2010 08:57 AM)

Marquette is now 11-6 after crusing past Providence 93-63.  It was pretty much over by the half, as Marquette had a 16 point lead.  The star player for Providence, Jamine Peterson was ejected, which naturally forced the Friars out of their game plan.  Darius Johnson-Odom scored 20 in the first half of play.

The Golden Eagles shot over 63% from the field in the second half.  Maurice Acker had the hot three point hand, scoring six of six from that range.

Jeronne Maymon Transfers, while Marquette's Vander Blue Stays in Milwaukee

By Golden Eagles Basketball fan Phil (01/13/2010 08:59 AM)

The bad news for Marquette Basketball fans could have been worse.  The young forward Jeronne Maymon decided that he's not going to play for Marquette.  Worries that his good friend Vander Blue would follow Maymon out  the door.  Blue's mother has come out to say that Vander will stay in Milwaukee. There is little information on the Maymon departure.

The next Marquette Baskteball game is this Saturday when they face North Florida.  Marquette is currently at seven wins and three losses. Marquette is hoping to bounce back from its loss to Wisconsin.  This will be the last Marquette game before the holidays.  From there, the Golden Eagles will play Presbyterian at the Bradley Center.

Marquette Loses in Last Minute Rally by West Virginia

By Marquette Golden Eagles fan Phil (12/30/2009 10:40 AM)

Our Golden Eagles had a five point lead with less than one minute to play.  They thought that they had the 10-0 West Virginia Moutaineers down for the count.  Devan Ebanks had a dunk, Da'Sean Butler hit a three from the top of the key, and the game went to West Virginia.  Next up for Marquette is the highly ranked Villanova on January 2nd.  Bradley Center tickets for that game are still available.  Happy New Year to all Marquette Golden Eagles fans!

Marquette Loses to Florida State University, Take Second Place at Old Spice Classic

By Marquette Golden Eagles fan Paul (11/30/2009 09:34 AM)

Marquette Basketball ticketsIt was great to see the Golden Eagles defeat Michigan during the Old Spice Classic.  Marquette has a high scoring offense, and that came as a surprise to the highly ranked Wolverines.  Marquette put that game away in the fourth quarter with a 12-2 run.

Florida State took the lead with just seconds left in the title game.  Marquette had time to bring the ball down the court, but a bad pass killed their chance of retaking the lead.  Maquette lost to Florida State 81-78.  Still, it is nice to see that our Golden Eagles can keep up with some top 25 ranked teams.

Marquette Basketball Schedule 2009

By Marquette Fan Phil (11/24/2009 03:45 PM)

Reggie Smith Signs with Marquette

By Marquette Basketball Fan Paul (11/19/2009 03:54 PM)

Reggie Smith

Reggie Smith is a strong, tough point guard, who should be in a Marquette Basketball uniform this coming summer.  He is one of the top 25 point guards in the nation.  In his senior year, Smith averaged just under 18 points per game.  He was named MVP twice.  Since he comes out of one of the best basketball programs in the nation, we should see Reggie Smith on the court in short order.

Marquette Basketball Schedule and Predictions for Big East Standings

By marquettetickets.com (11/03/2009 03:30 PM)

Marquette Basketball fans do not like to hear that their Golden Eagles might finish 12th in the Big East.  With three starters long gone, the eyes of the fans are upon the remaining team members.  Maurice Acker feels that the Golden Eagles need to start fast, in order to avoid the basement.

Wesley Matthews, a former Marquette Golden Eagle had his NBA debut on October 28th.  That makes him one of 48 former Marquette players to reach the NBA.  He played a short five minutes, and took only one shot, but this is just the beginning for Matthews.

Marquette starts their season with an exhibition game vs MSOE, in Milwaukee.  The Bradley Center won't know who to cheer for, since both teams are from the same city.

Marquette Golden Eagles 2009-2010 Update

By Marquette Basketball Fan Paul (10/16/2009 11:51 AM)

The Marquette Golden Eagles have some unanswered questions as they begin practice for the 2009-2010 season.  Besides having six players who have never played Division 1 basketball, it is still uncertain who will be the starting point guard.  Freshman Junior Cadougan seemed like a likely candidate until he tore his Achilles' tendon, sidelining him for the season.  That leaves senior Maurice Acker who saw substantial playing time last season at point guard after Dominic James was injured.  However, at 5'8" and 165 pounds, Acker does not have the stature of your typical point guard. Junior college transfer Dwight Buycks is also a contender for the position thanks to his size and previous experience.

Marquette VS UW Milwaukee Panthers

The Ghost of Tom Crean at Marquette

By www.Marquettetickets.com (09/02/2009 12:28 PM)

Marquette ticketsTom Crean was honored by the fans of Marquette University. Crean is now in the Marquette Hall of Fame. During his time at Marquette, Crean coached the Golden Eagles to numerous 20+ win seasons.  They cracked the top ten rankings under Crean, and made the national tournament a number of times.  His highest honor was to get the Marquette Golden Eagles to the final four.

Lazar Hayward to Play This Summer

By Marquette Buddy Phil (06/04/2009 01:01 PM)

Lazar Hayward will spend his summer at the University Games.  He said that he's excited to represent Marquette at the event.  This may continue to aid his basketball performance.

In the past, Marquette was represented by Doc Rivers, and Dwyane Wade.  Does this guarantee a leap into the NBA, time will only tell.  For now, Hayward will concentrate on playing his best.

Dwayne Wade Watches Playoffs from His Couch

By Golden Eagle Fan Phil (05/26/2009 02:00 PM)

Dwayne Wade

Dwayne Wade is sitting at home, while the playoffs heat up.  This is the year where he needs to make a decision.  He will be a free agent next year, and Miami would like him to stay with the Heat.

So far, his only comment on the matter was reassuring to Heat fans.  He claimed that he would like to stay with the team for the near future.  Wade would certainly like it to play for a team that is in the playoff hunt every year, but that is what every NBA player wants.

Fans clamor that Dwayne needs help.  He cannot carry the team on his back.  Perhaps the Miami Heat is just a couple of players away from a contender.  For now, Dwayne watches the playoffs from his couch.

Marquette Players Graduation Rates are High

By Marquette Fan Diana (05/21/2009 12:59 PM)

Marquette Golden Eagles Graduates for 2009 include Trend Blackhedge, Dwight Burke, Dominic James, Wesley Matthews, Jerel McNeal.  Not only did they come from a strong season on the court, they are headed out with degrees.

Over the past 18 years, 97 percent of Marquette's basketball players have graduated.  This is a tremendous rate compared to most NCAA schools that are only graduating about half of their players.  This shows a serious commitment not only to competition, but to the academic integrity of Marquette University.  According to Scout.com, Marquette is in the Top Five of major conference basketball college graduation rates.  Among the lowest graduation rates were LSU, Minnesota and San Jose State.

Jerel McNeal and the NBA Draft

By Golden Eagle fan Phil (04/22/2009 10:58 AM)

Jerel McNealMarquette says goodbye to Jerel McNeal.  Next stop for Jerel is the NBA draft.  What does it take to get the attention of the NBA?  I would say that holding the records for points, and steals would do the trick.

One final accolade was bestowed upon Jerel.  He was named second team All American by the AP.  He made first team in 2003.  He is rumored to go in the first round of the NBA draft.

Marquette will be hard pressed to repeat their winning ways next season.  Marquette will lose key seniors for the 2009-2010 season, including McNeal.  Buzz Williams will surely be tested, as he looks down the current roster in hopes of filling shoes of some great seniors.  Will the new squad help sell Marquette tickets?  We will see in due time.

Season Ends Sadly for Marquette

By Marquette Buddy Jim (03/23/2009 04:10 PM)

Marquette ended their season by stepping over the line, literally.  Lazar Hayward was trying to inbound the ball with just seconds left in the game when he stepped over the line.  It was game over for the Golden Eagles.  Dominic James was cleared to play in this game.  He cheered on his team from the bench.  He spent 17 minutes on the court, scoring no points.  Jerel McNeal led Marquette with 39 points.

The game was all Missouri for the first half, and mostly Marquette for the second.  With just minutes to play, the game was tied.  Missouri took the lead and angered all the Marquette fans with the injury switch of free-throw shooters.  To say that the events that occurred in the final seconds in the game gave it up to Missouri would force one to ignore the fact that Marquette was flat in the first half.  Marquette did not play their game for the first half of the game.

Sadly, they will not advance to the field of 16, and three seniors will call this a college career.

Former Marquette Players of Note

By Marquette Man Phil (03/19/2009 10:39 AM)

It was back in 1977 when Marquette won the big tournament.  That team saw a number of its players go on to play professional basketball.  Al McGuire knew the right formula for coaching raw talent, and that paid off for a number of NBA teams.

Bo Ellis spent three seasons in the NBA.  He played for the Denver Nuggets.  He tried his hand at coaching at Chicago State University.  His desire to work with the youth of Chicago found him working in the Chicago Public School system.  Butch Lee has the honor of being the first Puerto Rican born American to play in the NBA.  He also played for the National Superior Basketball League in Puerto Rico.  While in the NBA, he played for the Lakers, Hawks, and Cavaliers.

Jerome Whitehead played for the San Diego Clippers after they drafted him in 1978.  He moved about in the NBA, playing for eleven years total.  He spent time with the Jazz, Mavericks, Cavaliers, Warriors, and Spurs.  He was a junior at Marquette when they won the tournament.

Other members of the 1977 team include Jim Boylan, Ulice Payne, Gary Rosenberger, and Bernie Toone.  Since that championship season, the Marquette Golden Eagles have only made it as one of the final four teams to compete for the big prize.  That came in 2003.

The Golden Eagles Invited to the spring tournament

By Marquette fan Phil (03/16/2009 02:11 PM)

Things were looking so bright for the Marquette Golden Eagles.  James broke is foot, and things went south for a while.  Marquette lost five of six games following the break.  The teams that beat Marquette were some of the toughest opponents in the Big East.  That was a factor when the powers that be decided to allow Marquette to play in the tournament.  They fought hard in those losses.  That came into play as well.  These were not a bunch of "crash and burn" type of losses.  Every game could have gone Marquette's way.  This is the fourth year that the Golden Eagles got the big invitation.  They ended their season 34-9 overall.

They are seeded in the number six spot, and they will face Utah State.

Three losses, and One Win

By Golden Eagle Phil (03/12/2009 04:05 PM)

Starting with the good news, Marquette cruised past St. John's last night.  The team focused on their defensive efforts in the past week, and it paid off with a 74-45 drubbing.

St. John missed 19 of 22 shots at one point in the game.  The loss puts the Red Storm one game below .500, and virtually out of the tournament.  They may be invited to the newly created College Basketball Invitational.

Moving on to the bad news, The Golden Eagles were beaten by Jonny Flynn of Syracuse.  With just over two minutes to play in overtime, a three-point basket by Rautins put Syracuse up by four.  Prior to the overtime period, Marquette had a one-point lead with only 17 seconds to play.  The game went into overtime with the sinking of just one free throw shot.

At Louisville, Marquette lost a close one.  They were defeated in a low scoring game 62-58.  They lost at Pittsburgh on March 4th, and that brings us to the Syracuse game that I commented on.

Fans say to me "let's see what happens in the tournament."  I don't see our Golden Eagles getting over the loss of Dominic James.  Maurice Acker is trying his best, but he has huge shoes to fill. One or two wins into the tournament would be nice, but to expect the world would be foolish.

James Breaks Foot, Marquette Loses to Uconn

By Golden Eagle fan Phil (02/26/2009 01:59 PM)

Dominic James injury

The road just got tougher for Marquette, tournament wise.  Just a few minutes into the game, Dominic James broke his foot.  The best way to put it is to repeat the words of Buzz Williams when he said, "Dominic's career at Marquette is over."  The Golden Eagles relied upon the three-guard set up all season.  Changing their style of play, this late in the season would be disastrous.  Maurice Acker is hardly an equal replacement for James.

The team rallied behind Jerel McNeil, and it got tight at one point in the game.  UConn pulled ahead, and defeated Marquette 93-82.  James was accountable for 12 points per game and just over five assists.  He was a key defender as well.  He has the most experience on the team, and continues to be respected on and off the court.

To understand the loss better, Connecticut out rebounded Marquette 46-26.  James is looking at three months of healing, followed up by rehab.  The Golden Eagles play Louisville on March 1st.

Golden Eagles Lose To Villanova

By Marquette Buddy Jimmy B. (02/11/2009 12:06 PM)

Marquette dropped its second straight game, losing to Villanova last night.  Two Wildcat players alone had scored 27 from three-point territory.  The game was a high scoring affair for both teams, but Villanova scored what would easily pass for NBA numbers.

Marquette played against a team that shot 72 percent in the second half.  It is nearly impossible to beat a team with such impressive shooting.  Jerel McNeal amassed 23 points, setting the career scoring record.  George Thompson held that record for 40 years.

The legendary Al McGuire coached George Thompson.  After his time in Milwaukee, but he was drafted by the Celtics.  He played in the ABA for the Pittsburgh Pipers.  He made the ABA All Star squad three times.  Thompson spent one season the Milwaukee Bucks.  In 1971, Thompson scored 1888 points while playing for Pittsburgh.  He averaged 27 points per game in that same year.

Marquette is now 9-2 in the Big East.  Villanova is a lock for the tournament, as is Marquette.  If they happen to see each other in the tournament, it would be meeting number three of this 2009 season.

Losing to USF was just a product of a cold night for Marquette.  Losing to Villanova was not the same thing.  Villanova has once again scored triple figures, and had twenty game winning seasons.

On Valentines Day, Marquette will play host to St. John at the Bradley Center.  We hope that they return to their winning ways this Saturday night.

It's Twelve In A Row for Marquette

By Marquette Man, Paul (02/04/2009 03:12 PM)

Jerel McNeal

Marquette tied a record win streak last night, after defeating DePaul.  They are starting to look a bit like the team Al McGuire led to the championship in college basketball.  They are the first to admit that having a low profile is working towards their advantage.

Since the "boot camp" days this summer, Buzz Williams has kept his nose out of the press reports, or lack thereof.  These Golden Eagles are flying above the fray.  Being ranked eighth in the nation, but keeping away from the spotlight might have had an effect on the prognosticators who do not see Marquette in the final four.

DePaul gave Marquette a run for their money, but did not come away with a victory.  Jerel McNeal came out hot, and scored 26 points for the game.  It helped that DePaul's leading scorer was benched with an ankle injury.

McNeal is now the third highest scorer in the Big East, and clearly a team leader.  They take the next three days off before going up against USF on the road.  Some of Marquette's biggest games come just before the tournament.  They still have to face Seton Hall, St. John's Georgetown, and Pittsburgh among others.

For now, we can enjoy the win streak and hope for more.

Another Win for Marquette

By Marquette fan Phil (02/04/2009 02:25 PM)

Marquette scored ninety-four points against Georgetown.  Sure, Georgetown racked up eighty-two points in their loss, but this final score is more like one that you would see in the NBA.  The Golden Eagles remain undefeated in the Big East.  The 25th ranked Hoyas have now lost five in a row.

Jerel McNeal had another fantastic game, scoring 26 points, with 11 assists.  The ten-point lead that Marquette built up by the third quarter was too much to overcome for Georgetown.  Marquette had 38 shots at the free throw line, scoring 30, compared to Georgetown who made only eight of 13 at the line.

Although the fans are riding high, Buzz Williams tried his hand at keeping his men grounded.  He alluded to the fact that if opposing teams keep shooting at 56 percent or better, his team would deserve to lose.  If the Marquette bench cannot start scoring points, that may bring another opportunity for opposing teams to defeat them.

Williams claims that he is very hard on his players, and they respond to that toughness with great play on the court.  When you are winning, it is easy to take the tough stuff from your coach.  If this team starts to lose a few games, that kind of coaching can have the opposite effect.  Time will tell on that matter.

Meanwhile, Marquette goes on to play DePaul in Chicago on Tuesday night.

Marquette Defeats Notre Dame

By Flying Golden Eagle Buddy Jim (01/27/2009 02:29 PM)

Notre Dame left the court in defeat, after coming back to tie the game with just over four minutes left in the game.  Marquette responded with twelve points to Notre Dame's five.

The veteran players on Marquette played some of their best basketball.  Lazar Hayward scored thirteen, his team outscored Notre Dame in the paint, and the three-point shot by Jerel McNeal made a comeback impossible.  The Golden Eagles went on to win the game by a score of 71-64.

The Golden Eagles went into this game ranked eighth in the nation. Who knows where there rank will be after the powers that be reset the numbers.  Notre Dame lost four in a row, and Marquette has not lost to a Big East team so far this season.  Their win streak stands at ten.

Nobody figured that Notre Dame would end up shooting worse than they did in the previous two games, but they did.  Marquette shot forty-three percent in the game, and that was enough to beat The Fighting Irish.

Next up for the red-hot Golden Eagles is twenty-fifth ranked Georgetown at The Bradley Center.

Golden Eagles Keep On Winning

By Marquette fan Jimmy (01/26/2009 02:44 PM)

Marquette fans are very excited about their 6-0 record in the Big East.  They face Notre Dame tonight in South Bend.  My co-worker thinks that this will be the night of the big let down for the Golden Eagles. He thinks that they are flying way to high right now.

Marquette took a fourteen-point first-half lead into the locker room against DePaul.  They missed their first seven shots coming out for the second half, but kept their lead throughout the game.  Jerel McNeal scored a team leading twenty-one points, followed by Matthews who scored twenty.

Marquette took thirty-six shots at the line and scored 21.  They could not score a three point shot in the second half, and did not penetrate much, but the game never got very close.

The Fighting Irish just lost their first home after winning 45 at South Bend.  The third ranked UConn defeated Notre Dame with ease.  The only weakness UConn showed was at the line, where they shot 50%.

Marquette will have to do the same in order to beat Notre Dame.

Prior to the win against DePaul, Marquette defeated every team that they faced save for Tennessee.  Their schedule does not get any easier in the coming month.  They face Georgetown, DePaul, Seton Hall, and Villanova in the coming month.

If they continue on their winning ways, they will surely get an invitation to the tournament.  Where they will be seeded, has a huge impact on how deep they can go.

N.C. State Falls to Marquette

By Marquette Buddy Paul (12/23/2008 01:20 PM)

Marquette bounced back from their loss to Tennessee last night, defeating North Carolina State.  It was a close game as the final minute closed in.  In fact, it was a tie game as Dominic James heaved up a three-point shot to put Marquette ahead.  With less than one second remaining in the game, N.C. State managed to inbound the ball, but the jump shot McCauley put up was after the buzzer.

Dominic James ended the game having shot 50% from the field, with four of those scores coming from three-point range.  Jerel McNeal put up the same 50%, going 9-18.  Hayward Lazar went 6-12 and scored 2-5 from the three-point arc.

North Carolina's Brandon Costner was 9-10 for the game, and perfect from three-point range.

Marquette is ranked anywhere between 25th and 47th depending on what website you visit.  This win should push Marquette a few spots higher.

The Golden Eagles are taking a holiday break.  Their next game is on December 28th against Presbyterian.  From there, the schedule will be tough as nails.

The Vols Too Much For Marquette's Depleted Ranks

By Golden Eagle Paul (12/18/2008 01:30 PM)

Tennessee defeated the Golden Eagles on Tuesday night in Tennessee.  Marquette is going to have nights like these, if they don't figure out a way to work their offense into the paint.  It's one thing to shoot from the outside, but another if you have the added dimension of tough play under the hoop.

What's the point of worrying about Marquette's interior game if there is none to be found?  Yes, Marquette kept up with The Vol's in the second half, but Tennessee had a deep bench to bring fresh troops on to the wood.  The officials called just about every foul imaginable, and that didn't help the Golden Eagles in any way.  Marquette had five players in foul trouble by the second half.

It is worth mentioning that Marquette could only suit up eight players on Tuesday night.  It's Western Carolina that will take the floor at The Bradley Center on December 19th.  Marquette's record is now 9-2.

Marquette beats Wisconsin

By Marquette Man Paul (12/11/2008 01:25 PM)

Jerel McNealIt was a close game, but in the end Marquette improved to 6-1 when they defeated their cross-state rivals Wisconsin.  The Bradley Center was in full support of Marquette.  Marquette was not afraid to go inside on the big men of the Badgers.  They scored 28 of their 61 points in the paint.  That close-to-the-basket scoring was vital, since the Golden Eagles struggled on the outside.

Wisconsin had the lead at the half, but Jerel McNeal came out of the locker room red hot.  He scored a three-pointer, then went on to put up a total of 16 points on his own.  The Badgers were only ahead by one point after his crazy ten minute stretch.  A couple of free throws later, and Marquette was ahead for the rest of the game.  On the flip side, Wisconsin only came away with two points from nine opportunities during that same ten minutes.  Down the stretch, Wisconsin couldn't draw a foul.  That's the key to the Badgers play, draw the foul, and score at the line.  The Golden Eagles have proven themselves worthy opponents by defeating Bo Ryan's Badgers.

Two Top 25 Ranked Wisconsin Teams Meet this Saturday

By Golden Eagle Buddy Paul (12/04/2008 11:23 AM)

Central Michigan fell to the 5-1 Warriors at the Bradley Center last Tuesday night.

This was the first time that the two teams have ever played each other.  Marquette has only one loss so far, and playing a lowly team like the Chippewa's is to be expected for the highly ranked Warriors.

Marquette pushed ahead of the Chippewa's when they ran up an unanswered eleven points just after the half.  Coming off the bench, Marquette reserve Jim Butler scored seven points.  Overall, the bench did much better this game, when compared to last Saturday's game.

The Golden Eagles face Wisconsin next Saturday at the Bradley Center.  This game will be the second test for this young team.  The Badgers are ranked as 22nd in Division 1A, and they defeated Virginia Tech by two points on December 1st.

Marquette is ranked in the top twenty-five as well.

Hometown Game Goes Marquette's Game Yet Again

By Golden Eagle fan Phil (11/23/2008 06:00 PM)

It can be said with assurance that Marquette Golden Eagles fans certainly enjoyed the game against UW Milwaukee.  As in past years, the Marquette crushed The Panthers.  Lazar Hayward scored 25, as did Wesley Matthews.  The Bradley Center crowd might have been a mix of fans, but it certainly tipped towards Marquette's favor.

Raked 15th in the nation, one would expect this outcome.  The Golden Eagles won their 36th straight game against Milwaukee.  This was not the runaway game like last year.  Five minutes into the game, it was all tied up at eleven.  At the half, Marquette had a slim four point lead.

Marquette took advantage of their 16 free throw shots, scoring 12.  UW Milwaukee only went to the line four times. The Golden Eagles led by nineteen in the second half, and won by twenty.

Soon enough, the team will be tested.  Going up against Big East rivals will challenge Marquette.  This past win made it an even 1400 for the school.

Ranking the Golden Eagles

By Marquette fan Paul (11/05/2008 03:36 PM)

If you search the sports blogs, Marquette does not have a great chance at winning National Championship.  There is a whole bunch of talent on the squad, but there seems to be a concern about how the head coach will get things done.  If the players respond well to Buzz Williams, then this team could win the conference.  If the team loses confidence in Buzz, who knows where they will fall.

The recruiting efforts have brought in talent, and the season starts soon.   Go Eagles!

Chicago is where the ball starts rolling for Marquette

By Marquette fan Paul (10/22/2008 02:45 PM)

Buzz Williams called for drills, and the Golden Eagles ran them as ordered.  The new coach put the squad through their paces at the Gearald Ratner Athletics Center.  This first practice came after a seven day boot camp that the coaching staff had put together in order to start conditioning the team.

Twelve of the Marquette players spent time at practice.  Liam McMorrow is still working on his foot.  The schedule calls for one more practice in Chicago.  All this was preceeded by the Chicago Tip-Off event at the Shedd Aquarium.

Coaching and Recruiting for Marquette

By Golden Eagle fan Phil (10/09/2008 08:57 AM)

Buzz Williams

Buzz Williams coached in Texas.  He spent time at a number of universities in the Lone Star state.  Most notably, he learned the ropes under Bill Gillispie.  Texas A&M posted a 70-26 record during that time, so it is safe to say that Williams was working with a coach who had the ability to bring out the best in his players.

Buzz Williams managed to recruit a few players from that Texas region, and brought them to Marquette.  It's a good sign when a coach can bring in players from all across the nation.  Williams admits that he will face a smaller recruiting class for 2010.  Going deep into the spring tournament helps bring the school to the players, instead of the reverse.

When your team is continually on national television, it certainly adds to the profile of Marquette.

Buzz Williams has the confidence of the university backing him up.  Having spent a year at Marquette under Crean, this changing of the guard is not an effort to revamp the entire program.  Jerel McNeal was one player who voiced his approval in the choice of Buzz as the new coach.  Williams has to continue with the winning tradition that Crean has established, he has to recruit wisely, and he has to impress the alumni.

Marquette Basketball at a glance

By Golden Eagle Paul (09/26/2008 11:14 AM)

The Marquette schedule at a glance shows that they will need to come out strong from the start.

They play over one dozen teams that made it to the big dance last year.  Big November games will include Dayton, UWM on November 22nd, and Northern Iowa on Nov. 28th.

The marquee game against the Badgers will be a televised event on December 6th.  Buzz Williams is excited about the strong schedule.  Playing Wisconsin at home will encourage the team, and playing a SEC team at a venue where there is no fan base, will neutralize the crowd.

Worth mentioning is the Notre Dame and Georgetown games to be played in late January.  That is followed up with a game against De Paul in early February.

It only gets tougher for Marquette when they face St. John's, Seton Hall, then Georgetown.  Connecticut and Louisville bring up the rear.  The Louisville game will be nationally televised.  This season has a new coach trying his best to keep the team on the winning side, and doing it under the bright lights of ten televised games.

Marquette pre-season update

By Golden Eagle Fan Paul (09/08/2008 04:30 PM)

Buzz Williams knows that at the end of this season, the team will change completely.  Seniors will move on, others may try their hand at the NBA.   For now, his concerns are size.  He wonders how the Golden Eagles will size up with the "Typical 4's" in the league.  Williams is stressing the need for a team player that can guard the big guys.

As the three-point line has been moved out another 12 inches, Buzz is looking forward to the return of David Cubillan.  He can contribute to the outside shooting efforts.  The Golden Eagles were told that their game time start against Georgetown has been moved to accommodate a national broadcast.

A Late Scratch for Marquette

By Marquette fan Phil (08/28/2008 03:10 PM)

Trevor Mbakwe

Marquette Golden Eagle Trevor Mbakwe has decided to leave the team and go to junior college.  The knee injury he suffered last season left him sidelined.  On August 26th, Coach Williams reported that Mbakwe's departure shocked him.  Buzz claims that he was not informed of the situation before it occurred.

This loss leaves a giant hole in a key position in the Marquette roster.  It is too late to replace Mbakwe, so Marquette is left to struggle for the 2008-2009 season.

Roster for the Marquette season takes shape

By Golden Eagle fan Phil (08/13/2008 12:45 PM)

The Marquette starting lineup for the 2008-09 season should be Dominic James, Jerel McNeil, Wesley Matthews, Lazar Hayward, and Liam McMorrow.  Buzz Williams has only one rookie starter this year.  Three seniors make up the backcourt.  The team's MVP Jerel McNeal will be back to try to get the Golden Eagles past the Sweet Sixteen.

The spotlight might be on Lazar Hayward this year.  He has become a stronger player in the off season, and is poised to break out.

Should the Golden Eagles go deep into the tournament this year; their recruiting efforts will be stronger.  Tom Crean took some of the best recruiters to his new team.  A solid, winning season keeps teams in the spotlight when it comes to recruiting.

Marquette may be one of the top 40 teams in the nation at the start of the season.

Cadougan commits to Marquette

By Marquette Bob (07/17/2008 04:16 PM)

Junior Cadougan

The verbal agreement to play for Marquette has occurred.  Junior Cadougan agreed to transfer to Marquette.  He passed on a chance to play with Wake Forest and Memphis.  After breaking his foot this past December, he missed the remaining games while playing for Christian Life Center Academy.  Cadougan sited his desire to play right away, and to play for the Big East as his reasons for choosing Marquette.

Rated as one of the top twenty at his position, Marquette has certainly nabbed what could turn out to be a key piece of the puzzle.  Cadougan is known as a tough player and natural leader on the court.

Cadougan gets closer to a decision

By Golden Eagle fan Paul (06/25/2008 01:52 PM)

Junior Cadougan is considering a move to Marquette.  At the tender age of 13, he drew interest.  Recruiters are pressing hard to acquire him.  An admittedly shy young man, Cadougan is taking his time and narrowing down his options.

Cadougan wants to get the most out of whichever school he joins.  The degree programs are as important as the athletics.  Junior acquired the MVP award for the NBA Top 100 camp.

Cadougan needs to develop his jump shot and defense.  He has bulked up in the past few months in preparation to compete at the college level.  Sources say he is quicker and more athletic since bulking up.

Cadougan has lots of time to decide which college to commit to, and in the meantime, he talks to players and coaches of the schools he is interested in.

Buycks pronounced "Bikes" coming to Marquette

By Golden Eagle fan Phil (06/17/2008 09:18 AM)

Former Bay View high school star Dwight Buycks committed to play for Marquette, staring in 2009.  Marquette beat out Memphis, Illinois, and Kentucky.  He is coming back after playing for a small college in Iowa.  At Indian Hills, he was their leading scorer.  His choice to play at Indian Hills came after he already committed to Bradley U.

Buycks was named the first team all-state player by the AP.  Buycks will have one more year at Indian Hills, and then he will move over to Marquette.  He scored in double figures a whopping three dozen times while at Indian Hills.  Marquette has yet to hand out the final two scholarships, and both are expected to go to players that can have an impact in the 2009-2010 season.  They are keeping their hopes up for a big player, or someone that can fill a slot in the backcourt.

Dominic James thinking twenty moves ahead.

By Golden Eagle Paul (06/10/2008 04:21 PM)

When Dominic James announced that he will return to Marquette for another year back in 2007, it was after he tested the waters and found himself all alone. In his senior year, James should help Marquette stay solid.  I have never heard of someone leaving college on the guess that two years down the road, there might be less demand for their skills.  We are talking about the NBA, and you never know what you are going to get when it comes to offers.  None the less, James will be coached under Williams, finish his senior year, and then take what he can get in the NBA draft.

I like that move.  Get the degree, season your skills, and hope for the best when you try to make it in the NBA.

What's the Buzz Williams?

By The Golden Warrior (06/04/2008 02:51 PM)

Buzz WilliamsIt seemed like five minutes after the Golden Eagles lost in the Big Dance, Tom Crean dashed off to greener pastures.  Who's the man to take over?  Buzz Williams is the man.  Williams was surprised to find himself as head coach.  He claims that it was never his intention to lead the Marquette squad, but there he is at the helm.  Some fans say that this is a risky move.  His experience came as a coach for New Orleans.  His experience also comes from his job as an assistant on five other NCAA teams.  This rush to hire seems to come with some confidence that Williams has what it takes to lead the Eagles.

Who's Coming to Marquette, and Who's Staying?

By M.U. Guy (05/28/2008 02:25 PM)

Marquette welcomes young Jeronne Maymon as the third Wisconsinite to play for the home state Warriors in less than five years.  Although just a junior at a local Madison high school, Maymon looks forward to playing for Marquette.  If high school stats mean anything when sizing up a player that will move into the college ranks, Jeronne averaged 30 points per game during the WIAA state tourney.

One the flip side, Jerel McNeal withdrew his name from draft consideration in the NBA.  He reconsidered the draft, citing his desire to finish some college goals before moving on to the NBA.  Jerel started every game of the previous season, averaged 15 points per game, 3.5 assists, and 2.2 steals.  Jerel won Player of the Year on the defensive side for 2007.  Part of his decision to withdraw from the draft was the fact that he didn't receive a full invitation.  He was assigned as an alternate, and that didn't seem to suit his needs.  This could bode well for Marquette.  Hopes are high that the Warriors will make it past the second round of the tournament next year.

Not this year.

Stanford Cardinals rallied for an 82-81 overtime victory over Marquette on Saturday, advancing to the round of sweet 16 for the first time since 2001.

The Cardinal, who trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half, advanced to Houston, where they will face Miami or Texas.

Brook Lopez made a baseline leaner with 1.3 seconds left to win it for the third-seeded Cardinal (28-7). Lopez, one of Stanford's twin 7-footers, finished with 30 points, one shy of a career high.

Trent Johnson, the Pac-10 Coach of the Year, was ejected with 3:36 remaining in the first half for walking on the court to argue a foul call.

Brook Lopez scored eight of Stanford's 11 points in overtime as the Cardinal took advantage of a big size difference. The Golden Eagles were outplayed in the post after their best big man, Ousmane Barro, fouled out with 1:44 left in regulation.

The road to the Final Four

By FUMU (03/18/2008 11:26 AM)

Marquette University men's basketball team earned the No. 6 seed in the South Region. The Golden Eagles will face No. 11 seed Kentucky at 1:30 p.m. CT at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on Thursday. The MU/UK winner will advance to face the No. 3 seed Stanford/No. 14 seed Cornell winner on Saturday at either 5:45 p.m. CT or 8:15 p.m. CT. The Golden Eagles are making their third-straight NCAA appearance,  and marking the program's 25th Appearance in Final Four play.

Marquette and Kentucky have met nine times in NCAA Tournament action, the most among any two programs in the postseason event's history. The Golden Eagles own a 5-4 advantage in NCAA matchups, while the Wildcats lead the all-time overall series 7-6.

The most recent meeting came in 2003, when Marquette secured an 83-69 victory to advance to the Final Four. Prior to a 76-53 victory by Marquette in 1994, the two squads hadn't met in the NCAA's since 1975. That season, Kentucky posted a 76-54 decision in the first round.

Marquette University men's basketball team survives to play another day in the 2008 BIG EAST tournament. Tonight they will try to continue their run playing Notre Dame. The Marquette/Notre Dame winner will advance to play the Louisville/Pittsburgh winner Friday night at 9 p.m. in semifinal action. The Golden Eagles and Fighting Irish split the season series, with each team winning on its home court. Marquette has the ability to win the tournament; however, their inconsistent play is their Achilles heel. Their last game against Seton Hall, they showed us what a strong team looks like, but their inability to finish is something that needs work. This reminds me of another team in Milwaukee that can't finish.

Let this be the year.

By Joe Dorau (03/07/2008 01:16 PM)

Marquette University men's basketball team concludes the regular season play at Syracuse Saturday afternoon. Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Marquette knows it will be participating in the 2008 BIG EAST Championship. The team's seeding, however, has yet to be finalized until after the regular season game.

A victory over Syracuse Saturday would assure the squad of the No. 5 seed in the 12-team field and a 2 p.m. CT match up with the No. 12 seed on Wednesday afternoon. Should the Golden Eagles fall to the Orange and West Virginia beats St. John's, the Mountaineers would earn the fifth seed and Marquette would move down to No. 6 seed. West Virginia defeated Marquette in January to secure the tiebreaker in the only match up between the two programs. The No. 6 seed faces the No. 11 team at 9 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Marquette men's basketball team won their second Big East game on the road this year beating Seton Hall 89-64. At the beginning of the season, I was very high on the fact the 2007-2008 season could be the year for the Golden Eagles. However, my high dwindled away as conference play started. Yes, Marquette lost some close games but at the same time they were crushed by teams that they should have beat. Marquette still has a long road ahead of them. They have only a few more home games left this season. Starting with Pittsburg this Friday, which tickets are still available for, followed by Rutgers, Georgetown, and Florida International which should be an easy win. Cheap Marquette basketball tickets are still available.

Can they win on the road?

The number 17th ranked Marquette University men's basketball team hits the road in search of its first Big East road victory of the season when the team travels to Cincinnati. Marquette and Cincinnati did not play each other in 2006-07 and have played just once since the two former Conference USA programs moved to the BIG EAST Conference. Cincinnati owns the overall all-time series 24-15, most recently claiming a 70-66 game on Jan. 7, 2006.

The 20th ranked Marquette Golden Eagles men's basketball team returns home for the first time in a couple weeks, opening a two-game homestand starting Saturday night at the Bradley Center against DePaul in BIG EAST Conference action.

Currently in possession of a 12-game home winning streak going back to last season, the Golden Eagles return to the Bradley Center hoping to snap a two-game road loss.

In the 10 victories, MU has won by an average of 25.6 points per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field overall and 37.4 percent from behind the 3-point line. The squad is out-rebounding its opponents by over six boards per game.

All of the above numbers are improvements from the season averages of 46.5 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from long distance. The rebound margin dips to just two per game while MU is defeating its opponents by an average of 14.5 points.

Big East Opener

Dominic James scored 21 points and Lazar Hayward scored 17 as No. 10 Marquette beat Providence 96-67 on Thursday night in the Big East opener..

Providence's Jeff Xavier was called for an intentional foul on James, who clutched his right ankle after appearing to roll on it. But James shook it off, hit both free throws and then drained a 3-pointer to make it a five-point trip and give the Golden Eagles a 63-37 lead with just under 14 minutes to play.

Four minutes later, Geoff McDermott of Providence and McNeal battled for the ball and kept going after the whistle blew, both drawing technical fouls as they stood toe-to-toe even though McNeal patted McDermott as they were being separated with the Golden Eagles up 66-42.

Providence never got closer than 20 points.

The Friars took a 7-0 lead in the first 53 seconds, but the highlights were far between. Marquette quickly answered with a 14-0 run as Providence, 6-23 in Big East openers, went more than 5 1/2 minutes without a point and committed six turnovers in the first eight minutes.

Marquette beat in state rival Wisconsin 81-76 at the Kohl Center Saturday. Marquette University started the first half of the game with a  21-13 pounding over the tall Wisconsin squad. The Golden Eagles were hitting 10 of their first 13 field goals and finished at 55% shooting during the first half and 62% from inside the arc. In the first seven minutes of the game, Marquette junior, Jerel McNeal hit  8 quick points, giving Marquette an early lead in the game.

Junior guard Dominic James as well as the rest of the Marquette team was on fire. In the first half, Dominic James scored 11 points and four assists. James also showed his abilities on the defensive side with three steals and took a key charge in the second half to pump up his team.

In the second half, Marquette's big men stepped up. Wisconsin's Butch only had four in the second half.  James praised the hard work of Dwight Burke and Ousmane Barro on their defense against Wisconsin's tall backcourt squad. "We needed guys to step up, and Dwight and Ous did a great job tonight," said James.

To go along with strong second half defense, Burke was also active on the boards. Against a much bigger Wisconsin team, Burke pulled down nine boards and had two blocks. Of those nine rebounds, seven were on the offensive end, giving Marquette second chance opportunities. Rebounding was supposed to be the advantage for the Badgers in the game, but Marquette out-rebounded Wisconsin 41-34. It didn't matter that the Badgers had the size inside the paint, but Marquette outscored them in the paint, 44-30.

Even though Marquette found themselves in foul trouble early in the second half, the Badgers could not convert from the line. Wisconsin shot 12-22 from the line in the second half.

Next game for Marquette is December 15 against Sacramento State at 1pm. If you need tickets, grab them while you can. At the rate of Marquette wins, a ticket to the game could be the hottest ticket in Milwaukee.

Marquette University men's basketball team will be looking first Maui Invitational tournament banner to complement rest of the many tournament banners on the rafters of the Bradley Center when the team faces Duke in the championship game of the 2007 EA Sports Maui Invitational Wednesday night.

The Marquette Golden Eagles advanced to the championship game following a crushing  91-61 victory over Oklahoma State.

Marquette opened the tournament with a close 74-63 win over host Chaminade University Monday morning and followed that up with the victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Wednesday's match up between the Marquette Golden Eagles and the Duke Blue Devils will mark the one-year anniversary of their most recent meeting and for the second-straight time the victor will not only claim the non-conference contest, but a tournament title as well.

On Nov. 21, 2006, Marquette won a 73-62 win over No.8 Duke in the championship game of the CBE Classic in Kansas City, Mo.

Guard Dominic James led all scorers with 25 points and seven assists and classmate Jerel McNeal chipped in 17 points and six steals.

Dominic James, the next Kevin Durant

By FUMU (10/31/2007 10:53 AM)

Dominic James has been named to the preseason watch lists for both the John R. Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy, which honor the nation's top collegiate talent.

Dominic James who was recently named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, is one of 50 players to make the cut for the Wooden Award.

The list is composed of 50 student athletes who, based on last year's performance and team records, are the early frontrunners for college basketball's most coveted trophy. These top 50 candidates are comprised of returning players. Last year, Kevin Durant of the University of Texas was the first freshman to win the Wooden Award.

The preseason watch list for the Naismith Award also includes 50 players, including seven players from the BIG EAST Conference.

The watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its pre-season criteria on player performances from last season and expectations for the 2007-08 season. Seniors and juniors accounted for 17 apiece, along with 16 sophomores. The list does not include incoming freshmen, although those student-athletes will be considered in the first vote in January, 2008. The Naismith Trophy is the most prestigious national award presented annually to college basketball's players of the year. Durant also claimed the Naismith Trophy in 2006-07.

James was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection in 2006-07 after contributing 14.9 points, 4.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.

Go Eagles Go

By FUMU (10/16/2007 10:29 AM)

Dominic James has NBA potential, but wasn't ready yet  to transition to the NBA. He is quick and solidly built, could handle the ball and get in the lane at will. But the queations that loomed were could he make good decisions? Would he take good shots? Could he lead a team at the next level?

James declared for the NBA Draft after his sophomore season at Marquette, a season in which he averaged 14.9 points, 4.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals. He also shot just 38.4 percent from the floor, 27.2 percent from 3-point range and 65.1 percent from the free-throw line. Not great numbers, but particularly not great for a point guard in a Division 1 basketball.

The Golden Eagles last year went 24-10 but slumped down the stretch, losing six of their final nine games. They were eliminated by Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 61-49.

James received an invitation to the NBA's Orlando Pre-Draft Camp, but the reviews of his play there were not all that hyped up to be. "His lack of a formidable outside shot and his lack of impactful point guard plays are very troubling." NBADraft.net said James' "half-court offense needs much work, as he often rushes shots and sometimes is overaggressive driving." And an NBA scout stated that there simply was no buzz about James, that he "had lots to work on."

As painful as it was to hear for any potential 1st round draft pick, James considered all his options. He's back for his junior year at Marquette, ready to prove to the NBA scouts that he can do what's necessary to be a first-round pick.

Even James admitted that things had come a little easier his freshman season, when he averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 assists and 4.5 rebounds and shot 43.1 percent from the floor. Note that each of those stats was better than his sophomore numbers.

According to James, "The best thing about this team is the balance in scoring," James said. "Wesley Matthews and Jerel McNeal will handle their business. Lazar Hayward is a guy who can do more. He was a freshman making the transiation from high school to college. He's a guy with a lot on his shoulders to prove. He'll have to pick it up in the scoring column."

Hayward is a 6-6 small forward who showed flashes of helping out what is one of the nation's best three-guard lineups in James, McNeal (14.7 ppg, and the Big East defensive player of the year) and Matthews (12.6 ppg). Hayward averaged 9.3 ppg over his final eight games, including 18 against Villanova and 14 against Georgetown. The former four-star prospect averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds for the season, not bad for just 16.3 minutes per game.

Expectations are high for Marquette University. The Golden Eagles were in Rivals.com's first preseason top 25 poll, dropped out with the news of James entering the NBA Draft, then re-entered at No. 15 when he announced he was staying in school.

The team did nothing to temper expectations on a Labor Day weekend exhibition trip to Canada, going 4-0 with James averaging 17.8 ppg and posting two double-digit assist games. James said the trip north of the border worked out well.

Marquette University start proving things Nov. 10, when IUPUI visits for the season opener.

Marquette University men's basketball fans will have an easierwas to watch games this year thanks to a record number of television appearances, made possible through partnerships with Time Warner Cable (TWC), WDJT/WMLW (Milwaukee) and WACY (Appleton/Green Bay).

Marquette's ground-breaking local television agreement compliments the 13 games already slated for national broadcast on the ESPN.

TWC (Channel 32) will air 14 games locally that involve the Golden Eagles, and WDJT/WMLW (Milwaukee) and WACY (Appleton/Green Bay) will pick up the remaining four contests on the schedule, as well as the BIG EAST Conference's syndicated Game of the Week package.

Marquette's local, regional and national media exposure will reach an all-time high as each of the team's 31 games, including the exhibition, will be available on television.

MU takes D Wade's Lead and goes with Converse

By Marquette Mary (09/06/2007 09:20 AM)

Marquette University's Men's Basketball program has fed the NBA with many good players, but Dwyane Wade is the most recent.  His deal with Converse, has morphed in to yet a third brand, called Brand Wade.  Marquette University is the first school to sign a deal getting behind this Brand Wade and the men's basketball team will start wearing all of this gear with the hope that it, along with great play on the court, will set this team apart from the other Division 1 teams.

The players will have four uniforms they will wear this season and the school will still benefit from the deep pockets of Nike, the parent company of Converse.  Last season the team went 24-10 overall and 10-6 in the Big East Conference.  This year the MU Basketball team will benefit from a new deal between ESPN and the Big East Conference, promising fans at least 11 nationally televised games.  If you live in the Milwaukee area, you should be able to watch close to every Marquette basketball game on tv. But why not just get your Marquette tickets and see the games at the Bradley Center???

Go Marquette!

Marquette University Golden Eagles 2007-2008 BIG EAST opponents.

By Bucky (08/17/2007 02:11 PM)

This years Marquette Golden season consist of six postseason selections from last year and four nationally ranked programs.

The 16-team league will play 18 games that allows a team to play 12 opponents once and three teams twice. The Golden Eagles will face Louisville, Notre Dame and Seton Hall in home-and-away series this season, while meeting each of the remaining schools once.

Marquette Golden Eagles and  Louisville Cardinals have been meeting on the basketball court since the 1951 and have met at least twice per year in nine of the last 10 seasons. Marquette has claimed seven of the 12 matchups between the two programs, including four victories in Louisville. The series between Marquette and the Fighting Irish dates back to 1919, with the Golden Eagles winning six of the last nine games.

span>Marquette's nine home BIG EAST opponents are: DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall and USF.

The home portion of the BIG EAST schedule is arguably Marquette's most attractive slate in program history. Six of the nine teams to visit the Bradley Center competed in postseason play in 2006-07 and four of those programs concluded their season ranked in the AP Top 25.

2007 NCAA Final Four participant Georgetown highlights the home schedule and is joined by fellow power house Pittsburgh, which Marquette swept during the 2006-07 regular season. Louisville, Notre Dame, DePaul and Providence all represented the conference in the NCAA's or NIT last year and each squad is expected repeat that accomplishment in 2007-08.

span>Marquette's nine road BIG EAST opponents are: Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Notre Dame, St. John's, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia.
