More Info
Butch Lee was part of the legendary Al McGuire team that won it all in 1977. In fact, Butch won the Most Outstanding award for his effort in that tournament. Mr. Lee was an All American that same year.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he relocated to New York State along with his parents. After his college ball had ended, he was the first Puerto Rican to play in the NBA.
As an Atlanta Hawk, he averaged just below eight points per game, but was traded to Cleveland before the end of the season. After being traded to Cleveland, his numbers improved greatly, scoring just over 11 points per game. Early into the 1979 season, Lee injured himself and never returned to the level of play that worked for the NBA.
Butch went back to Puerto Rico to coach.
