Lazar played in Buffalo New York for Notre Dame Prep during high school.

In 2006, he had five rebounds in his first game as a Warrior. Late in the season he put up 14 points were scored against Georgetown. He went on to match that high against DePaul. Finally, he topped that with 18 points against Villanova. He developed well as the season went on.

For the 2007 season, he was recognizes with the All Big East second team honors. He led the bench in points on November 10th. In his first start, he scored fifteen and had eight rebounds. He had a game where he amassed four steals and two blocked shots. He repeated that effort against Georgetown. In the last three games of the season he pulled in 21 rebounds, and scored 41.
